Description of LC Category Manager v.0.1
This module is an alternative to the built-in category management page in SWCMS. I made it in response to this, this, this and other such posts from the pre-SWCMS days.

Features:
Add new categories and sub-categories multiple levels deep, batch edit names, batch delete categories, sort automatically by alphabet, number of links, name length or ID, edit meta descriptions and keywords, and move categories around. The LC Category Manager is interchangeable with the existing category manager so you can freely switch between the two.

Instructions:
Just upload the lc_category_manager folder to your modules folder. Install it from Module Management in Admin, and access it through the main admin control panel.

Notes
Writing a category manager was far more complex than I imagined, so it's quite possible I may have missed a few bugs.

Credits
Some of the code has been borrowed from the standard category manager in SWCMS.

Great job I have it installed, everything appears to be working fine and much better than the stock category manager. Thank you.

Two tips to fix potential problems with this category manager module, based on my own experiences:

1. After adding new categories, do one of the sorts (e.g. alphabetical or by ID). This guarantees the sort orders won't overlap.
2. If your new categories don't show up in the sidebar, clear your cache and templates_c folders, then refresh the page.

A simply amazing module and one of my favorite so far nick, this solves a lot of headaches we had previously when making sub categories. Sometimes all hell broke loose when ordering and re-ordering in the standard category manager, this solves that problem no end.

Thanks again.  Cool

I agree, this is an awesome module. What is the plan with 2.0? Are we utilizing this module or are we rewriting the core code?

Whew, this is a great module for minor changes... In my opinion this module would make a great addition to 2.0. It's a huge improvement over the old drag-and-drop category manager.

Nick,

Spoke too soon. I see the changes in the sidebar when I'm in the admin page but when I leave to the rest of the site, then the sidebar is not showing the new categories.  Any thoughts?

I think the sidebar on non-admin pages is pulled from the cache. You may need to empty your templates_c and cache folders.

I installed LC Category Manager on a resurrected (and for now hobbyist) InformedNetworker. Ran into an issue when I created a category Software then a category Development with sub-categories Web and Software. Everything worked fine except creating the sub-category Software...LC Manager didn't like that. For now I've "fixed" it by calling it "Application" instead of "Software" under development.
